So I’d like to address the obvious elephant in the room – who the heck is this chick that thinks she knows everything?
Well, if I haven’t mentioned it yet, my name is Allie, and I am the only child to my two parental units; Carolyn (who you will meet here), and Russell (who you likely will not meet here).
I’m in my early twenties (24 to be exact), and a bit of an odd duck (i.e. control freak). I completed my degree in psychology when I was 21, (too young if you ask me), and moved half way across the country looking for adventure. My two years in the Wild West unfolded like a bit of a hurricane, throwing me into different jobs – like an assistant manager in a clothing store, a first year welding apprentice in the oil patch, (before the whole economic turmoil thing), and finally landing me in a position as an employment coach, (which, as a young adult who is completely clueless as to what she wants to do career-wise, seemed a bit irresponsible). I fell in love, adopted some cats and became a doggy step-mom, and after two years, packed up my partner and our collection of worldly goods (ha, just kidding), and moved back in with my parents. Lucky them! Currently, I am stumbling through the restaurant industry, and trying to make it out with some dignity in tact, while completing a designation in human resources, and project management.
Now, my partner and I live in my parents’ attic (think bachelor apartment more than spooky castle), and I am trying to figure out what my next step is. Basically mom and I are trying to find our own way as a bit of a haphazard power couple, as most mother-daughter teams are I think, and share what colourful knowledge we have. Truthfully, I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’ve seen quite a bit in my short time on Earth, and if I can help anyone through my experiences, then I’ll take that as a win. There’s also the fact that writing these things forces me to live up to them – see: spring cleaning – I ACTUALLY HAVE TO DO THAT NOW. So it’s a win win I guess; readers get some (hopefully) comical, yet useful advice, and I have an audience to be accountable to. Great! What did I sign up for…?
